Shearwater Jetpack for Avelo Diving Achieves CE Marking, Opening European Market

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 1, 2026

Shearwater Research is pleased to announce that the Shearwater Jetpack for Avelo diving has achieved CE marking, enabling the Jetpack to be sold in Europe and marking an important milestone in the expansion of Avelo diving.

Avelo created the original equipment and developed the Avelo System and training methodology. Today, Shearwater is the lead manufacturer of the Jetpack, bringing its experience in dive equipment, electronics and manufacturing to the continued development of the system.

The CE marking represents the successful completion of the applicable European conformity assessment process and opens access to one of the world’s largest and most established diving markets.

EN 250 Conformity

As part of its certification, the Shearwater Jetpack has achieved compliance with EN 250, the European standard for open-circuit, self-contained compressed-air diving apparatus.

This is particularly significant because the Jetpack incorporates an onboard air integration transmitter. The transmitter provides gas pressure information to compatible Shearwater dive computers, integrating gas usage information and supporting the divers overall Avelo experience through Avelo Mode.

The successful completion of the conformity assessment represents an important milestone in the engineering and manufacturing of the Jetpack and enables it to enter the European market.

“Achieving CE marking is an important milestone for the Shearwater Jetpack and for Avelo diving,” said Jason Leggatt, CEO Shearwater Research. “Europe has a long and significant history in diving, and we are excited to make the Jetpack available to European divers, instructors, dive centres and retailers.”

Expanding Access to European Divers

Europe is home to a large and diverse community of recreational, technical and professional divers, as well as an established network of instructors, dive centres, retailers and equipment manufacturers.

CE marking enables the Shearwater Jetpack to enter this market and gives European divers greater access to Avelo technology. For dive professionals and retailers, European certification provides a recognized regulatory framework for evaluating the Jetpack and incorporating Avelo into their businesses. For Avelo, European market access also creates an opportunity to expand its established training network and introduce more divers to the system.

“Avelo was designed to reduce the weight of scuba gear and provide a new approach to buoyancy, and our focus has always included developing the training and education needed to support that approach,” said Aviad Cahana, CEO Avelo Labs. “With Shearwater leading Jetpack manufacturing and CE marking now achieved, we have an important opportunity to bring Avelo to more divers across Europe.”

A Milestone for Shearwater

The Jetpack represents an expansion of Shearwater’s role in diving equipment beyond its established portfolio of dive computers and electronics.

“Bringing innovative equipment to a regulated market requires a strong commitment to engineering, manufacturing and quality,” said Leggatt “Completing the CE marking process, including EN 250 conformity, is an important achievement for the Jetpack and enables us to bring it to a much broader community of divers.”

The Next Chapter for Avelo Diving

The CE marking signifies the beginning of a new chapter for both Avelo and Shearwater.

Avelo brings the original system, its training methodology and its established training agency to the partnership. Shearwater brings its expertise in dive equipment, electronics and manufacturing to the Jetpack.

Additionally, this past August Avelo launched Avelo Diver, a new entry-level course for people with no prior diving experience. Avelo Diver meets the ISO 24801-2 autonomous diver training standard. Graduates are qualified to dive with a buddy without direct professional supervision to a maximum depth of 18 m (60 ft), in environments and conditions comparable to those experienced during their training.

Together, these capabilities provide a foundation for expanding Avelo diving into Europe.
