DAN and Garmin Work Together to Enhance Remote Diving Emergency Response

DURHAM, NC – September 9, 2026 – Divers Alert Network® (DAN®), the world’s leading dive safety association, and Garmin announced the integration of the DAN Emergency Hotline into Garmin’s inReach® emergency response pathway for DAN members, strengthening support for divers in remote environments1.

The new integration connects Garmin’s global satellite-based emergency coordination capabilities with DAN’s dive medicine expertise, potentially enabling more streamlined access to specialized consultation during dive-related emergencies. For DAN members who include their DAN member number in the Emergency Notes section of their inReach account, Garmin Response℠ coordinators can contact DAN’s emergency hotline and consult directly with dive medicine professionals while continuing to coordinate local rescue resources.

“Remote diving continues to grow in increasingly challenging environments,” said Cliff Richardson, President and CEO of DAN. “This collaboration reflects DAN’s commitment to ensuring that our members have access to specialized support when and where they need it most. By bringing dive medicine expertise into the response process more efficiently, we can better support divers wherever their adventures take them.”

Garmin Response, a professional emergency coordination center staffed 24 hours a day, coordinates assistance through Garmin’s satellite communication network. Through the integration, Garmin Response continues to coordinate rescue efforts, while DAN provides specialized dive medicine consultation during the emergency coordination phase. Once an injured diver reaches a medical facility, DAN Medical and Assistance Services may provide continued support as appropriate.

“We are proud to work with DAN to enhance support for divers who rely on Garmin technology in remote environments,” said Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing. “By connecting Garmin Response with DAN’s trusted dive medicine resources, we can help ensure divers have access to specialized expertise when it matters most.”

DAN members who use Garmin inReach devices with an active subscription plan are encouraged to add their DAN member number to the Emergency Notes section of their inReach account so Garmin Response can connect with DAN during a dive-related emergency.
