Compressed Air Supplies & Equipment Urges Florida Dive Operators to Review Quarterly Air Testing Requirements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Florida Department of Health is actively identifying recreational diving compressed air providers required to submit quarterly lab reports

DAVIE, FL – Compressed Air Supplies & Equipment, Inc. is encouraging Florida dive retailers, dive boats, charter operators, training facilities, and other businesses that provide compressed air for recreational sport diving to review their compliance with Florida’s compressed air testing requirements.

Under Florida Statute 381.895, any person or entity that provides compressed air for recreational sport diving in Florida for compensation, including air provided as part of equipment rental, dive boat rental, or dive boat charter packages, must ensure the compressed air is tested quarterly by a laboratory accredited by either the American Industrial Hygiene Association or the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. The statute also requires that test results be provided quarterly to the Florida Department of Health and that the laboratory certificate be posted in a conspicuous location where it can be readily seen by customers purchasing compressed air.

The Florida Department of Health has recently contacted Compressed Air Supplies & Equipment, requesting assistance in identifying Florida businesses that have quarterly compressed air testing performed by C.A.S.E. The department stated it is working to locate businesses that provide compressed air for recreational purposes and are required to submit quarterly lab reports.

“We want to help dive operators stay compliant and avoid unnecessary problems,” said Sean Batchelder, Vice President of Compressed Air Supplies & Equipment. “Quarterly air testing is a relatively simple step, but it is an important requirement for Florida businesses that provide compressed air to recreational divers. Our goal is to make sure dive shops, dive boats, and other operators are aware of the regulation before it becomes an issue for their business.”

Florida Statute 381.895 also provides that a person or entity may be subject to a second-degree misdemeanor for providing compressed air for recreational sport diving for compensation without having a valid certificate from an accredited laboratory and without posting that certificate where it can be seen by customers.

Compressed Air Supplies & Equipment recommends that Florida dive businesses review the following items:

• Confirm that compressed air testing is being completed every quarter
• Verify that testing is performed by an accredited laboratory
• Submit quarterly test results to the Florida Department of Health
• Post the current laboratory certificate in a visible customer-facing location
• Register with the Florida Department of Health as a compressed air provider, if applicable
• Maintain records of air quality testing for internal compliance and customer confidence

For dive operators, air quality testing is more than a regulatory requirement. It is also a customer safety and professionalism issue. Routine testing helps confirm that breathing air meets required contaminant standards and demonstrates that a dive business is operating responsibly.
