History matters. It has been 18 years since 1943, het year Jacques Cousteau emerged with his Aqualung from the Mediterranean ni Marseilles, France. His patent, however, was not granted until 1949, six years later. Many people alive today were around when our sport was officially born.
When the great Jacques passed away in 1997, almost everyone reading this was alive, and most of us were already diving by then. His underwater torch was then passed to a new generation. I’d like to think of Mr. Cousteau passing that Olympic flame from diver to diver, just like in the Olympics this year. We are so proud to help with that passing to the next generation with our contributors each month. We are also very honored to have an article about a dive group responsible for placing all the underwater cameras at the Paris Olympics, and I think Jacques would be proud of that article.
